Russ Whelan - Lead AWS Engineer @ DevOpsGroup

The modern life of a Infrastructure engineer is a confusing one as the Cloud blurs the lines between your work and that of the Developer. This change in landscape means new skills need to learned and approaches changed.

Around 4 years ago I saw the writing on the wall and knew that the cloud was the future and started to play around. The lightbulb moment was when I started to play with Terraform standing up networks and instances in minutes which was mind blowing given it was taking weeks to achive the same via mutiple tickets. I was used to Puppet but Infrastructure as Code (IaC) was a massive leap forward.

Spin on 4 years and I have helped mutiple customers migrate to cloud and adopt technologies like containers, Kubernetes and of course AWS. One thing this time has taught me is that there is not a better time to spread yours wings and become a T shaped engineer.
